New Gameplay

Lego Batman 2's gameplay is easy to pick up, with plenty of variety. You can play cooperatively as Batman and Robin or switch between characters when necessary. Both have different abilities, and different suits which give them yet more. It's not difficult, but is hard enough that kids will have to keep on their toes to survive. The puzzles are well designed, also without being too difficult.
Lego Batman 2 introduces an open world structure, Gotham City, but individual stages play just like we're used to in Lego titles.

Lego Batman 2 looks great, with all the superheroes and villains animated with tons of humor and character. It's still a lego game, but this looks better than ever. The voice acting is fantastic, and gets the tone just right. There are great jokes throughout, with plenty for all ages to enjoy.

Lego Batman 2 is an excellent family video game that's as fun to watch as it is to play. Gotham City's open world design means there's lots to explore and find, and there are lots of characters to unlock and play with.

YoWindow is a weather forecast app that stands out from the crowd.

Instead of displaying data as a desktop notification, YoWindow features a colorful, fully-animated window that displays a nice landscape and changes according to actual weather conditions.

Besides having a very original interface, YoWindow is also quite informative. It displays the current weather situation (sunny, cloudy, rainy and so on) plus temperature (both real and the one it actually feels like), wind, pressure, and humidity. All these conditions are reflected in an customizable animated background ? which you can replace with your own photos as well.

YoWindow includes the weather forecast for the next three days. You can click on each day to access the information right away, or move the timeline on top to check how weather conditions change as hours go by ? and also see beautiful sunsets and dawns. The program can be set as your default screensaver as well.

Generally speaking, YoWindow is a surprisingly nice weather forecast tool, though I missed having more landscape designs to use as background. Another annoying detail was not to be able to scroll down the list of countries and cities with your mousewheel when choosing a location.

YoWindow is an original, colorful app for checking the weather forecast on your computer.

Instagrille runs through the Pokki desktop widgets app, and adds the Instagram logo to the task bar, next to the Windows button. Click the icon and the app pops up. You can view what's popular straight away, and if you sign in with your Instagram account, you can view your own photos and the feed from the users you follow.

Instagrille is attractive, although it would be nice if you could run it without Pokki too, as two icons are unnecessary!

Until Instagram themselves make one, Instagrille is a useful way to check out the photo sharing network without looking at your phone!

Unfortunately, Stratiform isn't compatible with all other add-ons available in Firefox, so it might run into issues, depending on what else you already have installed.

Stratiform is a great add-on that gives you a wide level of customizability when it comes to the appearance of Firefox's UI.

Magical Diary is an illustrated text adventure set in a bizarre world where you enroll in a Magic School, and have to survive. It features Manga style art, but is not a Japanese game, although it is frequently as weird as Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney.

Developer Hanako Games says its games are not just girl games, but definitely girl friendly. That's a fair assessment of Magical Diary, so while anyone might want to play, there's a definite girly-slant to it.

You'll begin by creating your character, with a name and a look, and then through text prompts you'll follow as you enter the school. Magical Diary is like a fantasy novel with choice, and there is enough choice that you can repeat the game and see lots of new content. The artwork isn't animated, but adds character to the story and characters you'll meet.

The opening sequence is a little dull, with not enough choice, and your first week in Magical Diary can be a bit bewildering. However, as you progress, the game's story gets quite unusual and much more interesting.

Magical Diary isn't for everyone - it's slow, and is essentially a text adventure with pictures. If that sounds like fun to you, try out the game!

ShootMania Storm is an online multiplayer futuristic first person shooter. From the makers of the massive Trackmania, it shares the same obsession with speed and keeping you playing almost without pauses.

Most big online shooters today will slow you down with complex 'weapons load-outs' and customizable characters before letting you into the action. ShootMania Storm is an antidote to that. There are various game modes, but all of them are fast paced and fun.

ShootMania Storm's interface design is shared with Trackmania, and really needs improvement. To newcomers it can be a bit confusing. A 'quick start' button is normal for gaming today, and would mean the game could pick your servers and so on. despite this, we found that the match-making was actually better than in some bigger titles like Battlefield 3.

Starting out is no easier than any first person shooter. You'll get killed a lot, but you are then straight back into the action, so you soon pick it up without any frustrating waiting.
The main weapon is a kind of laser-rocket launcher, making moving targets a challenge. In ShootMania Storm, the only difference between you and another player is your own skill, so it feels much fairer than some online shooters.

ShootMania Storm is an interesting online FPS. It's closest in style to Quake, although in some ways it's even simpler. The game modes and maps are really inventive, and the community can even create new ones meaning there's almost endless scope for innovation.

ShootMania Storm's focus on speed and its community of players will make it really attractive to some players, but it's difficult to see this level of simplicity winning over the Call of Duty and Battlefieldfans.

LCD Clock is a simple application that will put a LCD styled clock above your windows.

If you're not happy with how the stock Windows clock looks in the task bar, LCD Clock will put an LCD styled clock above all of your windows. It acts like a floating window and you can adjust it if you want it to act like a normal window or have it sit on top of all windows. LCD Clock can be handy if you have a full screen game launched.

Unfortunately, LCD Clock is a very basic application that doesn't do much beyond showing the time and date. You can switch between 24 and 12 hour time, if you want it to launch at start up, and the date format. There are no options to change the look of the clock. There's also no timer or stop watch functionality.

One more thing to note is that LCD Clock comes with a ton of bloatware. You have to be very careful and read the prompts thoroughly if you don't want any bloat applications installed. Even with all the applications unchecked, LCD Clock still put a shortcut to a free translation app on your desktop.

LCD Clock is a very basic application with a terrible user interface and isn't worth the trouble.

What's inside?

There are three main elements to Zoner Photo Studio, the Manager and the Editor. The Manager lets you find and organize the images on your PC, the Viewer lets you view them, while the editor allows you to make simple changes to your photos.

The viewer is attractive, but nothing special, but the manager is good. The interface is simple enough, with a folder tree, browser and information panel. You can email images from Zoner Photo Studio, and apply filters to make finding them easier. There isn't anything revolutionary about the Manager, but it does its job.

Image Editing

The Editor is better, offering a range of useful tools that will allow you to improve or alter photos you've taken. It's not as powerful as Photoshop, but it's much easier to use, and has the tools that most amateur or casual photographers will need. Zoner Photo Studio has a 'quick fix', which basically makes the image a bit stronger, and you can also play around with the color, levels and resize as well. There's a red eye removing tool that works well, as well as more subtle things like a clone stamp tool. In this free version, it's really only the lack of proper layer tools that are missing.

Zoner Photo Studio is a good option for basic photo retouching and editing, and has enough tools for most users.

Orcs Must Die! 2 is an action strategy game, where the aim is simple: kill the orcs! The first game was great fun, with great gameplay, humor and graphics. This sequel continues that quality, without being a revolution.

In Orcs Must Die! 2, you control a mage in 3rd person, either in single or cooperative two player mode. Your task on each map is to stop the waves of orcs that stream from rifts. It's a fast paced tower-defence game. You have time to prepare traps before the horde appears, then you use your mage to keep back the orcs as they attack.

The sound is great, with a lot of humor in the voice acting. The graphics are cartoonish, well animated and clear even when there's lots going on. As you progress, you'll open up new traps, weapons, trinkets and vanity items. You'll need more weapons and power too, as you meet more types of enemies.

Orcs Must Die! 2 is basically more of the same, but this time around you can also play a cooperative mode with a friend, which is a great addition. If you enjoyed the first game, you'll certainly be happy with this. The multiplayer mode is the icing on the cake that makes this a really great action tower defence game.

Orcs Must Die! 2 is a really enjoyable tower defense game, that mixes tactics, speed and humor into a fantastic orc-killing package.

The new Windows Live Messenger 2012 comes as part of the Windows Live Essentials pack. It's an incremental development over Windows Live Messenger 2011, looking almost identical, while introducing a couple of changes.

When you install Windows Live Messenger, you have the option to install the rest of the Essentials pack, including Mail, Writer, Sync, Companion, Family Safety, Photo Gallery and Movie Maker.

You can choose to connect Windows Live Messenger 2012 to social networks Facebook and LinkedIn, making the app your social hub in Windows, if you want. Facebook is still much easier to use in your browser though, and integration into Windows Live Messenger 2012 is only really useful if your Messenger contacts are still really active and important to you.

The interface is almost unchanged; so if you were unhappy with the changes we saw in 2011, there is nothing here to make you happier! When you open a chat, there is a new Video call icon, and when you receive a video call, there is a new floating window, much like in Skype. A neat feature of this is the option to answer without showing your video feed - we're not always ready for a video call, after all!

Windows Live Messenger 2012 is no revolution, slightly improving on its predecessor. It's still a little bloated, and considering Hotmail's recent transformation to Outlook.com, which features a great messenger service right from your browser, it could be curtains for this venerable application.

Just talk naturally, and it?ll pick it up.

Dragon NaturallySpeaking is seamlessly embedded in Windows, which means that as long as you have it running, you can start dictating in any application, from Notepad to Firefox. And of course, the functionality in Dragon NaturallySpeaking is not limited to dictation: you can also control the computer with your voice: open and close apps, browse the web, view files, and more.

Dragon NaturallySpeaking is, in other words, like one of those amazing voice-controlled computers you see in movies, only that this time it?s on your own PC!

Streaming Audio Recorder makes it easy and allows you to record any sound your computer produces.

The first thing most people will do with Streaming Audio Recorder is try to record streaming music from programs like Spotify and Pandora. While recording these songs "over the air" is illegal, Streaming Audio Recorder will work and captured streaming audio just fine. Streaming Audio Recorder limits users to 128 kbps recordings, which is on the low end of acceptable audio quality. Streaming Audio Recorder can also pick up sounds from your mic, if you have one connected.

There is a built in music search feature, which pulls up tracks and artists. This feature didn't work for us as we were repeatedly given "403 Forbidden" errors. While this feature is nice, it seems like an afterthought and it seems to pull tracks from all over the internet.

The trial version of Streaming Audio Recorder is pretty full featured but has a couple of limitations. There will be a five second nag screen you have to wait through before using the app and using some of its other features. Users will also be limited to recording a maximum of 3 minutes and can only download one track at a time.

Streaming Audio Recorder works well for recording system audio but its music search and downloading features are little more than an afterthought.

Either way, JottiQ sends the files to the Jotti website, where they?re analyzed with popular antivirus engines such as Avast, AVG, BitDefender, Kaspersky, Nod32 and Panda. JottiQ displays the results on a table, with advanced details about each scan on the right hand panel.

Besides analyzing manually selected files, JottiQ can also scan the executable files for the currently running processes on your system in just one click ? an interesting scan mode you don?t usually find in other security tools.

JottiQ is simple, easy to use and quick ? though the program?s speed depends on Jotti?s server workload. Luckily Jotti stores results of previous scans, which often speeds up the queue. Bear in mind though, that JottiQ doesn?t disinfect files ? it only detects viruses ? and that file size is limited to 20 MB.

Though it?s no replacement for a traditional desktop antivirus, JottiQ is a useful tool that provides you with an extra layer of security when dealing with suspicious files.

It also offers complete DHT support and configuration options that should give you all the options you need, whether you are inexperienced or advanced.

Reddimage is a photo browser for the popular message board, reddit.

If you browse reddit only for the pictures, Reddimage will give you a touch friendly experience. Quickly vote on images or view their comment threads. The entire interface is based on the Windows Modern UI, featuring huge thumbnails of photos. Tapping on one will show a translucent bar at the bottom with the name of the user who submitted the photo and its caption.

While it's great that Reddimage built in features for voting and commenting, they are all half baked. For example, if there is a link inside the comments thread, you can't click on them. You can reply to comments if you log in with your reddit account.

Reddimage's quirks continue when you tap on a photo to make it full screen. It will crop the image into a square, stopping you from viewing the entire image. Images are also low quality, when compared viewing them on the site. Reddimage's images are pixelated while the photos look fine on the web. There is no reason Reddimage has to compress images.

Overall, Reddimage is a mediocre image browser, especially compared to apps like Fresh Pictures that do it better.

With Windows Media Player (WMP) 11 Microsoft aims to counter iTunes? dominance. The interface has been beefed-up, usability has been enhanced and Microsoft has worked at turning its flagship media application into a full multimedia center, linked to online stores and compatible with mobile devices. Just bear in mind that Windows Media Player 11 is designed for use with Windows XP and Vista. If you're running it on 7, please read the Windows Media Player 12 review.

The first thing that will strike you when you start up Windows Media Player 11, is the complete revamp of the interface. No more deep blue, the whole application is now dark and shiny and you can customize it by selecting a hue of your choice. Windows Media Player's left side is a drop down pane for your library, the center displays your lists and the right side is used to create playlists which you can rip, burn or sync with a mobile device.

Compared to Windows Media Player 10, we feel that Microsoft has actually made an effort to simplify the interface and give you more ways to browse through your media list, whether by using the drop down menu or the quick rollout line on the top left. The 'play' and 'previous' and 'next' buttons are now nested at the bottom of the interface and have a jazzy glow whenever you roll over them. Microsoft has finally succeeded in integrating a good search function into its Windows Media Player interface. As you type the name of an artist or title the application will bring up the results in the main window.

Windows Media Player 11 makes all your media more accessible. Double click the Media Library button to browse from your music to pictures, movie files and recorded TV. The thumbnail view is a great way to quickly scan through pictures and videos and to include the album image to audio tracks. By clicking the ?Media information changes? option under the Library button you can also scan your PC to automatically find new media files. Creating a playlist is a case of drag and drop and oddly enough you can integrate audio, video and pictures. Burning and ripping in Windows Media Player is also very simple, yet disappointingly converting is limited to WMA, WAV or MP3.

The sync process is promising yet remains a bit unstable. While it?s very easy to create a list and sync media, Windows Media Player can occasionally crash or fail to load your mobile device, even if you press the refresh button. When we tested it with a Pocket PC, we had to restart Windows Media Player 11 so that it would recognize it and let us sync our music. As soon as the device became accessible though, it also became visible on the left sided menu, making it very easy to browse through it for music or pictures.

Windows Media Player 11 is a huge improvement from version 10. The whole interface is snazzier and makes browsing through your media simpler. Microsoft has also made creating playlists, syncing, burning or ripping just a case of drag-and-drop. Windows Media Player lets you check out music on dozens of online stores and is loaded with small features to customize your interface and change how you interact with your media.

While the syncing process still remains a bit unstable and we lament the lack of podcast feed support, Windows Media Player 11 is a solid competitor to Apple?s iTunes.

There are two modes to help you gain more control over what data is shared when you send your .DOC files to other people. Analyze mode merely summarize the data in a file, so you know what it contains. Scrub mode disposes of any data you want removed.

By default, Doc Scrubber does not overwrite the data, but generates a new copy for your records. You can even scrub multiple documents at a time with Doc Scrubber. For example, you can choose all of the documents in one specific folder, which can be a total time saver if you're under a time crunch.

Unfortunately, Doc Scrubber is not compatible with .DOCX format files, but it should work on .DOC files created with the newer versions of Microsoft Word. Just be mindful of the format you save each document in.

Doc Scrubber is an easy to use and convenient way to scrub personal data out of your .DOC files before sharing with others.

Social for Gmail works just how accessing Gmail would in an actual browser. In fact, Google Chat is even supported so you can talk away on multiple accounts at once with ease. You switch between accounts on an easy to use tabbed interface. Updates in your system tray ensure you know whenever you get a new email.

It'd have been nice if the email notifications let you know the subject of the email so you could see if you want to read it or not, but other than that Social for Gmail is a really comprehensive program that many people will find useful for managing their multiple email accounts.

World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria brings a whole new continent for players to explore, as well as a host of changes to the king of online role playing games.

After the events of Cataclysm, the continent of Panderia is discovered, having previously been hidden by magic. You'll begin in Panderia on 'The Wandering Isle', which is actually a giant roaming turtle! You can choose to play as the titular Pandaran race, as a Hunter, Monk, Mage, Priest, Rogue, Shaman or Warrior.

While general gameplay in World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria remains the same, there's a new challenge mode, and the maximum level you can attain has been raised from 85 to 90. The expansion starts like almost every MMORPG, with a fairly lengthy training sequence. While you are introduced to the game in this sequence, it's a shame that Blizzard have not innovated much here, as these tutorial missions are devoid of excitement or emotion, and don't really work as a way of drawing you into the World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria.

Graphically, there's an incremental improvement, with the cartoon world looking a little better than before. However, even on a powerful PC, you are likely too see glitches here and there.

World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria is essential for long time players, and the new continent freshens up the game. But with Guild Wars 2 making MMORPGs more accessible and cutting out the traditional grind, we'd expect to see Blizzard work harder to keep it's crown as the number one online RPG.

Hacker Simulator is a game for Windows PCs that lets you try your hand at playing a computer hacker.

The storyline in Hacking Simulator is pretty fun. You play the game as Alex D., a programmer for a software company by day and a professional hacker by night. Downadup is a virus that has attacked millions of PCs around the world, undermining the whole network through Internet security breaches.

During a routine hack, you get caught by the German company whose website you were hacking, the Duckman Corporation. In order to stay out of jail. you've got to help prove the company's innocence, as it's currently being accused of having stolen top secret documents from the U.S. Army itself.

The missions in Hacker Simulator involve puzzles and following instructions to unlock different areas of the server you're trying to hack. Hacker Simulator has Matrix-style graphics and an appropriate (but seriously repetitive) soundtrack that helps project the mood of the game.

Hacker Simulator's developers say that their game is powered by the Hacker Evolution game engine from exosyphen studios, but many players will probably feel that Hacker Simulator is more of a copy than an expansion of it. The gameplay and graphics are almost identical in that regard.

Hacker Simulator is a fun and challenging puzzle game.

Don't know what to cook for dinner? Looking at a bunch of ingredients but don't know what to cook? Allrecipes will help you with that. Look up recipes by searching for something specific or filter your search results by selecting the ingredients you have.

The front page of Allrecipes shows off feature recipes on the left, ingredients on the right, and your saved recipes all the way to the right. If you are an Allrecipes user, you can sync your saved recipes between devices, making it easy to transition from device to device.

Clicking on a recipe will take you to a page that features photos, instructions, and reviews. You'll have to swipe from right to left to view the rest of the long recipe page. This set up isn't ideal if your hands are dirty and don't want to touch your tablet. Recipes pages in Allrecipes are relatively text heavy so you'll have to make sure you read instructions. Other recipe apps feature big photos with simple text instructions, which may be better for more visual cooks.

Overall, Allrecipes is a solid recipe archive. There are tons of recipes to try and its user reviews are helpful.

A tal fine, la scrivania viene suddivisa in una sorta di griglia semitrasparente e l'effetto grafico a lavoro ultimato non è niente male.

Con Fences puoi scegliere tra diversi stili preimpostati, modificare colori, dimensioni e trasparenze, scegliere se visualizzare o no delle etichette, aggiungere tutti i riquadri che vuoi. Il principale vantaggio di Fences è che, diversamente dalle cartelle che restano chiuse finché non ne sveli il contenuto con un doppio click, i documenti rimangono a vista.

Inoltre, Fences offre varie opzioni di configurazione per salvare la distribuzione delle icone e ripristinarla in caso di problemi. Aggiungi una funzione che come HideDesktopIcons fa sparire i collegamenti al doppio click del mouse: utile per quando hai bisogno di ordine supplementare. Fences è bello e terribilmente facile da usare. In più, Fences è gratis per uso personale. Che aspetti a provarlo?

Quando eliminiamo i dati dal cestino, la cancellazione libera il settore sul disco ma non elimina completamente i file dalla "memoria storica" dello stesso, permettendo così il recupero (integrale o parziale) dei dati con appositi software dedicati, come Recuva.

Il programma spicca per la sua efficace e disarmante semplicità di utilizzo. Dovrai selezionare il drive da analizzare (disco rigido, floppy, unità removibili) ed avviare la scansione. Recuva ti indicherà se e quali quali file sono recuperabili e lo stato in cui si trovano.

Wordament è un gioco di parole online, localizzato in italiano, nel quale dovrai provare a comporre il maggior numero di parole possibile in pochissimo tempo.

Un tavolo con delle lettere poste in una griglia 4x4. L'obiettivo: riuscire a creare il maggior numero di parole di senso compiuto. La sfida: battere altri giocatori al tavolo e scalare la classifica di rendimento. Ogni partita dura due minuti, la tua abilità farà il resto.

Per formare le parole dovrai usare caselle adiacenti, qualunque sia la loro posizione. Più lunghe sono le parole trovate, più punti otterrai. Wordament offre diverse modalità di sfida.

Le classifiche, su base oraria, giornaliera o globale, sono sempre aggiornate in tempo reale. In più, con Wordament hai la possibilità di accedere ad un pannello con le tue statistiche personali.

Win7codecs non include alcun player video, ma funziona con qualsiasi lettore. Ad esempio Windows Media Player 12, o il media center di Windows 7.

Win7codecs deve essere installato su un computer su cui non siano già presenti altre raccolte di codec. Per il resto, non ha particolari problemi di compatibilità e si integra senza problemi con le funzionalità di riproduzione video native di Windows Seven. Win7codecs è dotato di una comoda utility di configurazione, che gli utenti più esperti potranno utilizzare per impostare al meglio la riproduzione.

Il noto simulatore di sci torna finalmente con questa nuova versione. Piste con diverse pendenze, modalità di gioco per tutti i gusti e sciatori personalizzabili.

All'inizio dovrai creare il tuo alter ego, scegliendone aspetto, colore e abbigliamento agonistico. Poi potrai cimentarti in una modalità allenamento per prendere confidenza coi comandi di Ski Challenge 2013.

La giocabilità è ottimamente calibrata ed è entusiasmante andare in slalom o in discesa col tuo atleta, cercando la traiettoria migliore ed evitando rovinose cadute. Durante la partita potrai vedere il tuo tempo cronometrato e la velocità a cui stai andando.

Ski Challenge 13 permette di usare varie modalità di gioco: Time Trial, Time-Attack, Freeride, Arcade, Extreme, Black Ice e Last Run. Potrai gareggiare in località note come la Val Gardena, Bormio, Wengen, Kitzbühel e Schladming. Ski Challenge 13 dà il meglio di se nelle sfide online, in cui potrai competere contro altri giocatori cercando di ottenere il miglior tempo.

Il gioco è ben realizzato e offre un'ottima sensazione di velocità. La grafica è più che buona (ma alcuni dettagli sono un po' sfocati), con sfondi dalle montagne innevate più che pregevoli.
